Rational 4/03

My topic is Animal Interaction In Wellington. I did this as an attraction because Wellington is full on Families with young children, people who are wanting to learn more about animals, and all destinations are great for tourists visiting Wellington. The relevant rational qualities are, being fulfilled, bright natural environments, educational, social, some attractions are hands on, and adventurous. The Emotive qualities could be relating back to your childhood memories, having special love and kindness towards animals, saving our extinct animals, and too have the passion to learn more about exotic, marine and native animals. My attractions have the ‘attitude’ of being active, happy and a enjoyable day out with friends/family.

The Visual language I have used is sharp, and exiting to read/look at, this is done by negative space, and bright colours. I used a Sans Serif font as a soft, welcoming vibe which related well with my attractions which are full of organic shapes and natural textures and environments. My collages feature Colours relevant to each attraction, the environment the attraction is in, and texture’s/patterns you will find at this attraction. My collages give you a scene of what you will experience at each attraction. The application of grid I have used is spatial, friendly, and easy to follow through to read and understand. What I have learnt from my own process is more about Wellington, and the Animal interactions we have, as well as one on one Interactions with animals we have in our City (such as Island Bay and the contact with the marine life, and close one on ones at the Zoo with some exotic animals). This project has helped me developed my InDesign skills, how to analysis my work thoroughly, and understand when pears are giving me critical feedback its for my benefit, learning type rules, having more scene of type and image layout, how to down size a file and print a Brochure, and many more qualities which I can take with me for future projects.

Test print and Critique 27/03

I have done a test print to see how well I like my college concepts with my text. There are a few adjustments to me made such as:

The front cover:
I am not happy with this layout and I don't think it's working for me. This could be because of scale, the font being too big, the design in general isn't working, the images my not be bold and clear enough to show my 3 destinations

So what I'm going to do now is de scale the font, and make 'interaction' and 'in' smaller because they don't need to be a main focus point. I will also play around with textures and compositions for my cover collage

I want to create a more organic front cover which will relate and tie in well with my collages.

Map:

The map composition isn't working for me either again, as scaled this up from being smaller to give the page more character, but I don't think this size is working for my spread, and is over powering.

So I will de scale this down again and see how it looks along side with a Key-telling us which each destination is.

Exotic:

This collage is probably the weakest out of them all. So what i have in mind is to de scale it bit, as its pushing the font a bit too much, and bring the orange circle scale down and try bring the group of people to main focus point.

I will try moving the yellow circle directly behind them, and bring scale in, and make the sign bigger as its starting to fade away abit.

Marine:

This collages fish nose is slightly being cut off in the middle of the page, so I will need to scale this collage down as its an awkward scale too to the left. I will also bring it up bit as it feels like it may be sliding off the page.

Another point I noticed on this image is the eye is being pulled around a bit, and this is due to the large symbols and the thick lines between then text.

So what I'm going to do is make these lines between the text thinner- and this will go for every spread. Im also going to swap the symbols and time over as the heavier symbols will lead your eye into the collage. I will also scale these down.
